Muhammad Hassaan Ahmed, a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the prestigious Dr. Vikram and Priya Lakireddy Fellowship, an honor awarded annually to the top UC Merced doctoral student conducting fundamental research in engineering with translational implications to health science.
Hassaan's research investigates how the mechanics of bending and twisting in biological filaments, such as DNA, influence their biological function—with the long-term goal of advancing translational health applications like gene therapy and cancer treatment. He is developing computational and inverse modeling tools to uncover how atomic-scale structures determine mechanical behavior in these critical systems.
Congratulations, Hassaan!
