Concerns over global warming, energy security, rising energy costs as well as health and environmental effects associated with energy production have led government and the energy industries consider the next generation electricity system featured by the smart-grid architecture in order to accommodate large-scale penetration of low-carbon, renewable technologies and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The focus of the Economic and Policy Analysis of Energy research area is to understand the impacts of new energy technologies and energy-environmental policies on the energy system or electricity markets. The research area expects to work with students who have a solid energy-related mechanics background and are interested in economic and policy questions related to energy.
